Gartner reports that there were more than 30 global smartphone vendors and more than 10 mobile operating-system platforms by 3Q10, although the top four (Apple, Android, RIM and Symbian) controlled 89 percent of the total market. Most adopting companies that had previously standardized on a mobile platform now need to support multiple operating systems, with Apple and Android having become more popular.

The HP partnership comes on the heels of Microsoft offering a bit of insight into Office 365’s momentum since it launched in June. While Microsoft hasn’t disclosed actual sales numbers, the company said that 90 percent of Office 365 customers are small businesses with fewer than 50 employees.
